Externship Program
Mount Vernon Family Therapy offers a 12-month externship where students have the opportunity to conduct therapy with children, adolescents, and adults in a private practice setting. Externs also have the opportunity to receive specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
Our externs are able to provide long-term therapy to clients presenting with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, adjustment issues, trauma, grief and loss, stress, and relationship issues. Our supervisors are primarily Ph.D. level psychologists who approach our clients from a strengths-based perspective and conceptualize clinical concerns and solutions through an attachment and systems-focused lens. Our clinicians draw on a range of therapies including, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, Family Based Therapy for Eating Disorders, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Radical Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, and Play Therapy.
Opportunity Details
- Externs are expected to carry a caseload of approximately 6-10 therapy clients per week
- Externs are required to be on-site 8-16 hours a week. Strong preference will be given to externs who can be on-site two days (16 hours) a week, including evenings.
- Externship includes weekly individual supervision, group supervision, and didactics.
- Office is metro accessible.
Requirements
- Doctoral student in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology APA-accredited Program.
- Must have obtained a Master’s degree by the start of externship.
- Must have completed at least one year of clinical practicum.
